SRM is a society for the land- – and for the people who love the land.

We encompass all perspectives of the rangeland community and those who are passionate about the health and stewardship of rangelands.

SRM’s members are land managers, scientists, educators, students, producers and conservationists–a diverse membership guided by a professional code of ethics and unified by a strong land ethic. All are welcome.

Our Story

The Utah Section of the Society for Range Management originated in 1949 in Salt Lake City, with 22 members present. Members included land managers, scientists, educators, and a single rancher.

Today, the section has grown to about 200 members, representing all people who manage, conserve and enjoy the vast landscapes known as rangelands.

The section meets twice a year; at the fall annual meeting for scientific information exchange and student contests, and at the summer tour to view practical applications of rangeland management on location. We provide opportunities for high school and college students to learn the principles of rangeland management through Range Camp, scholarships, contests, and the chance to attend the International Society for Range Management annual meeting.
