Utah State University Extension has joined with Intermountain Farmers Association to establish an ongoing ranch management seminar series focused on the Intermountain West. The series will provide high-quality educational opportunities for ranchers and allied industry professionals.

The Western Ranch Management Academy will hold three seminars in 2025 and four more in 2026. These seminars will each cover topics critical to the long-term success of ranching in the Intermountain West. Experts on specific topics will present material designed to provide the attendees with a working knowledge of the subject in an interactive setting. Ranchers will have the opportunity to network with subject-matter experts and other producers looking to improve their operations.

Ranchers and allied industry professionals will benefit from this deep dive into all facets of successful ranch management. To accommodate an intimate learning environment, class sizes will be limited.

Thank you for your interest in the 47th AZ/UT Range Livestock Workshop and Tour.  The dates are March 25-27, 2025. Tuesday, March 25, will be the workshop at the Grafton Building in Hurricane. Wednesday, March 26, will be the workshop at the North Event Center in Orderville. The tour will be on the Arizona Strip on Thursday, March 27. We are excited to have Dr Temple Grandin as our keynote speaker at the workshop! Please register for a free ticket!

Calling all young ranchers!

Working Lands Conservation and the Utah Grazing Improvement Program are hosting a Young Rancher Workshop August 13-15 in Duchesne County. This workshop is FREE for producers, including food, lodging, and mileage reimbursement. We will go on ranch tours, learn from ranch management experts, and build a community of beginning producers in UT.

Are you a high school student who loves the outdoors and wants to learn more about rangelands? Range Camp is the perfect place for you!

We will be offering a two-day field course taught by Justin Trujillo (author of A Field Guide to Grasses and Grass-like Plants of Idaho) that will focus on learning the basic morphology of grasses and grass-like plants. This course will cover identification of mostly cool — and some warm-season grasses common in the sagebrush steppe. Students will receive a plant press, hand lens and identification book for the course fee.

This course does not include meals; those enrolled should plan to bring food/snacks and water into the field each day. There is limited onsite camping available — contact for reservations.

This course is eligible for six continuing education credits through the Society for Range Management.

Cost is $75 per person

Register early — the course is limited to 20 participants.
